Photo Therapeutics Acquires
Lumiére Light Thérapie
Lumiére Light Thérapie president Tony Case
announced that the company has been wholly acquired by U.K.-based Photo Therapeutics, manufacturer of the medical industry’s Omnilux Light Therapy device. Lumiére Light Thérapie launched in the U.S. two years ago offering salons and spas LED light therapy exclusively for facial rejuvenation. Case explained that, “although Photo Therapeutics manufactured the Lumiére devices, it was our company, Raymond Anthony International, that distributed them domestically and developed the special LED light therapy formulations of topical products that further enhanced results obtained with the light alone. Photo Therapeutics has now become our parent company and the professional fit couldn’t be more appropriate or exciting,” added Case.

CoolTouch Allowed Patent
The United States Patent & Trademark Office has allowed the patent “Treatment of Cellulite with Mid-Infrared Radiation” to CoolTouch, California-based manufacturer of medical lasers. The inventors of the patent are David R. Hennings, CoolTouch CEO, and Mitchel P. Goldman, MD, of La Jolla Spa MD. The patent covers the noninvasive and percutaneous treatment of cellulite and fatty tissue implemented in the new 1320 nm CoolTouch CoolLipo laser system. “The very short pulse length and high peak power allow fat to be ablated and liquefied with minimal side effects,” explains Hennings. The laser is designed to ablate fat in areas such as the neck, chin and arms, and improves the outcome of conventional liposuction in larger areas such as the abdomen and thighs. The 1320nm wavelength tightens the skin from the inside out by directly targeting collagen and connective tissue. The CoolLipo laser system is cleared for general dermatological surgery and a 510(k) is pending FDA clearance for marketing the CoolLipo specifically for laser-assisted lipolysis.

Reliant Technologies
Announces Study Findings
Reliant Technologies presented first phase results from a clinical study of the new Fractional Deep Dermal Ablation (FDDA) treatment at the 27th American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) Annual Conference. The FDA-approved investigation evaluated FDDA treatment for patients with severe photodamage including rhytids, skin laxity, acne scars, atrophic scars, vascular lesions and striae. The study results demonstrated that FDDA treatment is safe and effective without the extended recovery time and risks of adverse reactions associated with conventional ablative resurfacing lasers. Zakia Rahman, MD, clinical instructor of dermatology at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, and medical director of the Fraxel Laser Clinic, noted “These study results indicate that by combining fractional and ablative technologies, FDDA treatment may be a new paradigm in the skin resurfacing arena, providing dramatic results that patients and physicians want without significant risks.”
