  1. Medical Photography System
Profect Medical Technologies of Pound Ridge, New York, introduces Profect Studio, an affordable photographic system that gives consistent, reproducible angles and lighting, and shows the true condition of a patient’s skin. Using two professional daylight lamps, the Profect Studio provides close-up digital photographs of the face without any of the glare or color loss found with standard flash lighting. Integrated ultraviolet lighting assemblies let you show patients the real impact of solar and actinic damage, and help you easily assess the condition of pores, hydration of the skin and skin oil levels. The complete system includes a desktop stand with multiple chin rests for up to 18 standard camera angles, professional daylight and ultraviolet lighting assemblies, a 7.1 megapixel digital camera, and a database and photo-documentation software package. Call 800.774.7630 or visit www.profectmedical.com for more information.

  2. Hair Removal Innovation
Cutera introduces ProWave 770, the first hair removal system that allows the practitioner to select the ideal wavelengths for each skin type with a simple push of a button. The ProWave emits infrared light between 770nm and 1100nm and is programmable. Program A, ideal for lighter skin types, shifts the wavelength distribution toward shorter wavelengths, while Programs B and C shift to longer wavelengths for medium and darker skin types. Furthermore, the ProWave 770’s large treatment window and fast repetition rate allow practitioners to treat large areas like legs and backs more quickly. The technology is available on Cutera’s new Solera Opus platform and on the Xeo multi-technology system. For more information call 888.4CUTERA or visit www.cutera.com.

  3. Class Distinction
Cynosure’s TriActive LaserDermology System, which includes six low-energy diode lasers to enhance microcirculation and mechanical massage to stimulate and tighten subcutaneous tissue, has gained FDA approval as a Class II device, clearing it for use by estheticians and other therapists. The TriActive has been used at medical facilities like the JUVA Skin and Laser Center in New York City since its original FDA clearance for physician use in 2004. “A recent study conducted at JUVA showed that the TriActive laser and massage components improved the appearance of cellulite in 83% of subjects compared to massage, which brought about improvement in only 17% of subjects,” reported JUVA’s Kathryn Frew, MD. Clinical studies of Matrixyl have repeatedly revealed dramatic changes in the depth, density and volume of wrinkles without the irritation associated with retinol. PCA Advanced Skin Care Systems are sold through select clinical practices. For more, call 877.PCA.SKIN or visit www.pcaskin.com.

  6. Self-Neutralizing Peel
ACTIFIRM, the leader in breakthrough enzyme skincare technology, introduces Z-Peel, a “smart” peel that not only selectively targets damaged skin cells but also neutralizes itself automatically. Research has proven that Actizyme 3M-M, a patented extract of the Mucor meihei mushroom, is in the same acidic protease class as cathepsin-D, a naturally occurring enzyme that supports desquamation. Z-Peel produces results comparable to harsher acid peels, but is mild enough for the most sensitive skin and, unlike other peels, increases skin photosensitivity by only 5%.
