Picture This

A patient who seeks out your practice is clearly open to your recommendations and values your clinical judgment, but this may not be enough to convince her to sign onto a treatment plan. Syneron Acquires Primaeva Medical
Following the close of the transaction, Scafuri will remain CEO of the combined company and Gerard E. Puorro will join Syneron’s board of directors. The management team for the combined company will be comprised of executives from each organization.

Syneron Medical has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Primaeva Medical, a Pleasanton, California-based aesthetic technology firm and developer of a minimally invasive radiofrequency device for the treatment of skin wrinkles and laxity. The RF-based system, which has already received FDA approval for wrinkle treatment, employs a micro-needle array housed in an advanced, single-patient use applicator tip to deliver bi-polar fractional radiofrequency energy directly to the reticular dermis.

AAD Reaches Out to Kids
Members of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD, aad.org) have launched a new website to help kids learn how to care for their skin. Kidsskinhealth.org provides information for children aged 8 to 12 and their parents on caring for their skin, hair and nails. The site features a Kids Portal and a corresponding Grown Ups Portal. The Kids Portal offers an interactive game called “It’s a Skin Cell’s Life” that allows kids to earn points by caring for Sammy or Suzy the Skin Cell. “The Academy is committed to teaching children and their parents about skin, hair and nail care, and an interactive website is the perfect way to do that,” said AAD president David M. Pariser, MD, FAAD.
